Happy World Bee Day!
This week we have been learning all about bees and why they are so important to us. The children discovered that bees help pollinate flowers, fruits and vegetables which helps many of the foods we eat to grow. We also talked about how bees make honey and help our environment stay healthy.
Alex kindly brought in her bee suit and part of her hive (with no bees inside). The children watched as Alex got ready to open the hive just like she would at home. Everyone then had the opportunity to try on the bee suit and explore the hive closely. We looked at a new frame, a frame with a comb built onto it and a frame full of honey.
The children were very excited to have a go at extracting the honey and sieving it manually, carefully scraping it with spoons. It was a wonderful hands-on experience and the children were fascinated to learn more about these amazing little insects!
