OWWL blog:

This week, we have been focusing on planting vegetables in preparation for our summer term crop. The children planted cucumber seeds in pots, sowed radish seeds directly into a raised bed and planted tomato seeds in the polytunnel. They showed great enthusiasm and curiosity while learning about how different vegetables grow and the care they need.

As it was the week before Easter, we also enjoyed a range of Easter-themed activities. We read stories including There’s a Chick in My Book and We’re Going on an Egg Hunt, which the children really engaged with. We took part in an Easter scavenger hunt, measured carrots as part of a fun maths activity and matched coloured eggs to develop sorting and recognition skills.

We also spent time learning about animal care, with a dedicated day focused on looking after chickens. The children were very interested and enjoyed getting involved in caring for them.

In preparation for the coming weeks, we have weeded and prepared a garden bed so it is ready for planting when we return after the Easter break. As the weather becomes warmer, we are looking forward to planting out our salad crops and continuing to develop our growing area.
